Compound Boost?
Here's the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat X... we have a supercharger and a turbocharger... together! 805hp.
Now... what if the Barracuda came with something like this?! High hopes I know, and this isn't some special edition that will be produced for the public. It's only a one-off unfortunately. http://youtu.be/JXcdeWH2n8I |
There is space in the market for super high performance vehicles in these segments so I wouldn't doubt the fact they'll want to go that route where its best applied. Probably the smartest thing for them to do. The Germans have done it, Italians have done it, now it's time for an American car maker to follow lead.
|
If that's the case, It would be great for them to throw it into the Cuda considering it'll be a "new" model. 805hp would also pair nicely to the AWD system they have in the Challenger and Charger as well though.
|
Well.. it wouldn't pair nicely to the system they have in the Charger and Challenger right now. It'll pair nicely with the AWD system in the new Trackhawk though.

Just hoping that they keep the weight of the Cuda down. That was the only downfall of the Challenger Hellcat, and as much as the 805hp would compensate much better compared to the 707hp, it would still be great if they could bring the weight down to at least 3700lbs. That's gonna be real difficult though considering they weigh close to 4200lbs.
|
These days its harder to keep weight down but a good start is with the right platform, sort of like what Chevy did with the new Camaro, starting it off on the lighter Alpha platform.
At least this being a muscle car they can always make up for excessive weight by increasing power. What's important is we have examples of what they could do by looking at the current Mustang and Camaro. So take note of those. |
The new Camaro ZL1 is darn hot. 650hp / 650lb-ft of torque and weighing in just around 3900-4000lbs. It looks tremendous as well.
|
Just hope the Cuda can put out similar power but that's all going to come down to what their goals are for it and where it will stand among what FCA will be offering overall.
Best thing for them to do is make it a true successor to the original. |
If they could accomplish that, I will be the happiest person ever. But for some reason, I think they're going to miss the mark though.
The 2017 Challenger now has some rear tail lights that actually resemble the old school 70's tail lights. The front ends were always pretty much there, sort of. |
